Workout Motivation

I am often asked, what keeps me pushing myself so hard day in and day out at the gym? What motivates me? My answer is simple. For me, its fear. I use my fear of the unknown to drive me to make my physical health my top priority. As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and had my thyroid removed.

Cancer is one of those words that when we hear it for the first time it strikes fear in your heart. Your mind races with all of these thoughts and questions. That’s exactly how I felt when I heard the word. I went numb. The doctor was talking but I heard nothing. I just scared at him in disbelief. I was lost and confused for awhile after my surgery. I would stare in the mirror at the scar on my throat and wonder, would the cancer come back?

Did I just get lucky this time? I took that fear of the unknown and turned my fear from a negative to a positive. I started my journey to a healthy me using fear as my motivation. This is why I do what I do every day without reservation.

Today, when I look at the scar on my throat I am no longer sadden. My scar reminds me that I am a survivor. So, my goal is to be as healthy and fit as possible in the hopes that I will never have to hear the doctor say, the cancer is back.
